HighGround Dairy President, Eric Meyer, is a seasoned dairy risk management and procurement professional with more than 14 years of experience including tenure at Downes-O’Neill LLC, Sara Lee Corporation, FCStone & Winona Foods.

Eric’s extensive hedging and procurement experience for both small boutique firms and large multi-national corporations gives him a unique insight into the dairy market.  He has a long tenure of creating insightful educational programs and content, heading the creation of eDairy, the industry’s first online source for dairy market news and the Downes-O’Neill Outlook Conference, an annual event that still exists today.

Michael T. Burke is CEO of HighGround Trading LLC and one of its founding partners. He has been involved in senior management positions within the futures industry for over 30 years. Prior to forming HighGround Trading, he served as the Executive Vice President of the Introducing Broker Division of MF Global, Inc, COO and SVP of the Introducing Brokers Division at R.J. O’Brien and as the General Manager of Iowa Grain Company.

He is a 1985 graduate of St Mary’s University in Winona, MN and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mike has served five terms on the National Introducing Broker Association (“NIBA”) Board of Directors. He is currently the Vice President of the NIBA and formerly held the position of Secretary. He is a past member of the CBOT and CME FCM Committees, the BOTCC Clearing Corporation Operations Task Force, and also served on the NFA/FIA Best Practices Committee.

Rick Gallwas is the President of HighGround Trading LLC and one of the founding partners. He brings 25 years of experience in building innovative products to meet the needs of investors through online platforms, value added broker assisted and managed futures products. Prior to forming HighGround, he was the President of RJO Futures and an owner and COO of Zap Futures which was sold to R.J. O’Brien. He was also a Full Member of the CBOT, operating as a filling broker in the grain complex.

Alyssa started her career at the Board of Trade managing a firm that had a primary focus in grains. The nucleus of her position centered around order entry and research development; from there, Alyssa’s enthusiasm for commodities continued to grow and expand. This enthusiasm led her to move to West Texas and assist in hedging for the largest originator of U.S. cotton to textile mills worldwide. Alyssa has now settled back in Chicago as a series 3 broker and market analyst.

Chris Hess serves as an Account & Trade Desk Manager for HighGround Dairy. Raised on a farm in Michigan, Chris brings years of cash side experience to the business. Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Saginaw Valley State University and is also a member at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange handling HighGround’s dairy spot and futures order flow on the trading floor.

Curtis was raised on his family’s dairy farm in Tipton, California. In 2007, his family started another dairy farm in Northwest Illinois. Having these two farms in his family has helped Curtis develop an understanding of the economic differences between California and the Midwest for dairy inputs, outputs, and the milk marketing orders. Prior to joining HighGround, Curtis interned at a dairy brokerage firm where he assisted traders on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He graduated from Calvin College earning Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Economics.

As Director of HighGround Dairy’s Hedge Advisory Services, Travis will be utilizing his unique skill set to help both dairy producers, processors and end-users quantify, mitigate, and manage risk associated in all aspects of the supply chain. Travis is known throughout the industry as an innovator in dairy risk management as he has helped create customer-specific solutions ranging from direct supply models to Value-at-Risk (VaR) analysis.

Travis is a dairy risk management and procurement specialist who has acquired more than 15 years of experience in the dairy industry with tenure at FCStone, The Schwan Food Company, Kellogg Company, and Cargill. Travis obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota with an emphasis in agricultural economics and currently lives in Southwest Minnesota where he is an active member in the family farm operation consisting of 1,400 acres of corn and soybean production.

Andy Kopale brings over 15 years of industry experience to HighGround after graduating from with a finance degree and a minor in Agriculture Economics from Southern Illinois University. After gaining his first industry experience as a runner on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade, Andy quickly advanced to became the assistant manager of Iowa Grain's grain desk. As the industry shifted to predominantly electronic trading, Andy moved from working on the floor to working in the office.

Since leaving the floor, Andy has continued to gain valuable experience working closely with a wide array of customers from across the country including large elevators, hedgers, and those looking to speculate in the markets. Andy is a firm believer in the use of proper risk management through various futures and options strategies. Andy is committed to integrity and always putting his customers' interests first.
