President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Mexico would continue with the process of approving a trade agreement with the U.S. and Canada despite President Trump’s plan to impose escalating tariffs on all Mexican imports beginning June 10.

Mr. Trump said tariffs on America’s third-largest trading partner would begin at 5% and grow to 25% unless Mexico takes effective steps to halt the flow of migrants crossing its territory to get to the U.S.

Mr. López Obrador, speaking on Friday, reiterated points he made in a letter to Mr. Trump on Thursday in which he called for dialogue to solve the problem of illegal migration.
