For dairy farmers across Minnesota, embracing sustainable practices and ensuring we protect Minnesota’s air, land and water is a top priority.
Energy is a critical aspect of that sustainability commitment. Every dairy farm depends on energy – for lighting, to keep our cows warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and to power modern equipment. Today, every dairy farmer is looking at ways to modernize their energy use.
The focus begins with energy efficiency on dairy farms. Working together with energy experts, Dairy Extension staff and the national dairy industry, our farmers are analyzing energy consumption, conducting energy audits and installing energy efficient equipment – everything from heating and cooling our facilities, to lighting, to milking pumps and compressors. Our innovative work to economically use water on our dairy farms also contributes to energy savings.
