- Skim milk powder imports remained elevated in March compared to previous years due to shipments from New Zealand, UP 9,562MT (+117% YoY). Volumes also rose from Germany (+1,331MT), France (+1,753MT), United States (+1,648MT), and Australia (+1,615) versus the prior year, which was enough to offset losses seen primarily from Belarus (-1,024MT) and Finland (-799MT).
- Infant formula imports reached the highest monthly volume since April 2020 on a seasonally adjusted basis. Sailings from the Netherlands, the top origination country, reached an all-time high in March as well, UP 5,490MT (+55%) compared to the prior year. Larger imports were also seen from New Zealand (+3,884MT or + 95% YoY), France, (+2,619MT or +78% YoY), and Germany (+572MT or +67% YoY).
- Whey imports were well above volumes seen in 2022, however, they were unable to overcome the strong comparables in 2020. The United States remains the top origination country with shipments increasing by 7,325MT (+41%) compared to the same time last year. Imports have also risen from Belarus (+4,195MT or +284% YoY) and Poland (+4,194MT or +285), driving the countries to become the second and third highest in market share respectively.
